Trademark and Competition Law Event
Yiğit Alp Aslan, associate in the Competition and Compliance Department of Erdem & Erdem, participated as a speaker in the session titled “The Relationship Between Trademark and Competition Law” at the event entitled “Trademark and Competition Law”, held at Altınbaş University on 6 March 2026.
During the event, the fundamental concepts of trademark law and competition law, two dynamic and evolving fields of law, were addressed, and the points of intersection between these two areas were examined. In this context, the relationship between the protection of intellectual property rights and the preservation of effective market competition was assessed from both theoretical and practical perspectives.
In his presentation titled “The Relationship Between Trademark and Competition Law,” Yiğit Alp Aslan evaluated the balance between the protection of trademark rights and the application of competition law rules. He further addressed how the exercise of trademark rights is assessed under competition law and discussed recent developments reflected in the decisions of the Turkish Competition Board.
