The Competition Law Certificate Program XIV, organized by Istanbul Bilgi University Competition Law and Policy Research Center, is being held between October 14 - November 26, 2023.

Mert Karamustafaoğlu, Partner and Competition & Compliance Leader at Erdem & Erdem, gave the training titled "Competition in Regulated Markets: The Case of Telecom, Energy and Payment Services".

In this module, Mert Karamustafaoğlu first discussed the network industries, which are among the regulated sectors. He stated that the energy and telecommunications markets are important both because they are the most developed sectors within the network industries and because they are frequently on the agenda in terms of competition law enforcement. He mentioned that the important decisions of the Competition Authority, especially in the electricity and fuel sectors, are among the best examples of how competition law enforcement is carried out in regulated sectors.

Noting that the Competition Authority has recently shown great interest in markets other than the energy sector, which are undergoing rapid change and growth, Mert Karamustafaoğlu emphasized that the Competition Authority has not only conducted numerous investigations in fast-growing areas such as payment services, e-marketplaces and e-commerce, but has also published various reports.
