We announced in our previous Legal Alert that the first reporting period for the dates between 01.10.2023 and 31.12.2023 will end on 31.01.2024 within the scope of the European Union Regulation 2023/956 establishing a Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) which was published in the Official Journal of the European Union on 17.08.2023, put into effect on 01.10.2023 and creates obligations for importers resident in the European Union (EU). You can access our related Legal Alert here.

The European Commission has announced that there have been technical issues in the reporting system and therefore an additional period of 30 days has been provided to facilitate importers experiencing difficulties in reporting. In this context, importers who have not yet submitted their CBAM reports for the reporting period covering 01.10.2023 and 31.12.2023 will be able to “request delayed submission” on the system as of 01.02.2024.
