The Regulation on Control of Medical Waste Has Been Published in the Official Gazette

The Regulation (Amending Regulation) Amending the Regulation on Control of Medical Waste (Regulation) has entered into force through publication in the Official Gazette dated 18.08.2022 and numbered 31927.

Some of the important amendments introduced by the Amending Regulation are outlined below:

  • Obtaining waste transportation licenses, for medical waste to be transported to processing facilities by licensed vehicles, and using the online system of Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change during the transportation has been made mandatory for medical waste transportation vehicles.
  • All personnel in charge of medical waste management shall hold a Vocational Qualifications Authority (VQA) Vocational Qualification Certificate in the relevant field.
  • Until the VQA Vocational Qualification Certificate is required by the VQA for the personnel in charge of collecting and transporting medical waste from temporary storages of health institutions and processing it in medical waste processing facilities, a training program, the procedures and principles of which will be determined by the Ministry, will be organized by the Provincial Directorates, and participants who successfully complete the training will be given a Certificate of Authorization.
