The Protocol on Cooperation and Exchange of Information (Protocol) was signed between the Personal Data Protection Authority and the Competition Authority. The cooperation between the authorities aims to prevent practices that may harm both the privacy of personal data and the establishment of effective competition by undertakings via big data technologies.

Within the scope of the Protocol, the authorities have agreed to actively cooperate on the following issues:

  • Carrying out joint studies in emerging areas that fall within the capacity of both authorities and that may cause irreparable damage in the absence of rapid and effective intervention.
  • Publishing reports with the cooperation of both authorities in order to raise awareness among users and convey a common message to undertakings with regard to the protection of personal data and competition, particularly in digital markets.
  • Organising joint conferences and discussion programmes.
  • Organising trainings where relevant authorities share their expertise and experience in their areas of competence.
  • Discussing common issues at national or international events organised or attended by the relevant authorities, and to support these events on issues within the authorities' respective fields.

With the Protocol and the above-mentioned objectives, it is aimed to establish active and effective competition and to strengthen the control of consumers over their personal data.
