Competition Board's Investigation against Google concluded
Competition Board (“Board”) rendered its final decision regarding the investigation carried out against Google Reklamcılık ve Pazarlama Ltd. Şti., Google International LLC, Google LLC, Google Ireland Limited and Alphabet Inc. (“Google”), at its meeting held on 08.04.2021 with the number 20/248-105.
As a result of the investigation carried out against the allegation that Google abused its dominant position in the general search services market and highlighted its local search and accommodation price comparison services in a way to exclude its competitors, the Board decided that:
- Google has a dominant position in the general search services market,
- Google violated Article 6 of the Law No. 4054 by complicating the activities of competitor local search sites and distorting competition in the local search services and accommodation price comparison service markets,
- For these reasons, to impose 296,084,899.49 TL administrative fine on Google,
- To provide conditions to competitor local search services and competitor accommodation price comparison services that will not be disadvantaged from Google’s own services on the general search results page within 6 (six) months from the notification of the reasoned decision,
- Google will submit a report periodically to the Competition Authority once a year for a period of five years since the first compliance measure was implemented.
