Erdem & Erdem Managing Associate Ecem Süsoy Uygun gave a training on "Data Law and Ethics in the Energy Sector" on Saturday, May 11, 2024 within the scope of the Energy Law Certificate Program organized by Bahçeşehir University Continuing Education Center and Istanbul Institute.
Ecem Süsoy Uygun focused on the strategic significance of data security during the training as well as the close ties between energy law and data protection law. She also discussed how data use in digitalized energy markets contributes to efficiency in the processes of production, distribution, consumption, and management. The course also covered fundamental ethical guidelines for practicing energy law, emphasizing how important they are in preserving the public's confidence in energy markets as well as that of stakeholders in the energy sector and consumers.
During the training, the Data Act, designed as a part of the 2020 European Data Strategy and complementary to the Data Governance Act, was also discussed. This Act aims to maximize access to and the use of data in a competitive and fair environment, enabling a leap in the EU’s data economy. Additionally, the concept of "greenwashing," which misleads consumers about the environmental impacts of products or services, was explained to mid- or senior-level managers interested in the energy sector.
